Verified Buyer Steering Wheel Hub Adapter, Corso Feroce

The adapter is recommend for Mustang 1965-1973. The design is not conducive with my 1970 Mustang steering column. The design has no tab hole for the ignition key locking cylinder. The locking steering wheel function is no longer functional. The electrical contact for the horn is non functional. Turn signal deactivation requires turning the steering wheel beyond 3/4 revolutions on return to wheels straight. The adapter might be considered for Mustang steering columns for the years before 1970. I don't have that installation experience. I would not recommend to Mustang owners 1970-1973.

Steering Wheel Hub Adapter, Corso Feroce

The steering wheel column adapter will work well for a 1969 Mustang with possible additions to the column required. Specifically, stacked tolerances between the installed location of the column bearing, spacer and c-clip may cause the adapter to bottom out on the column when tightening the column nut. If this occurs, the bottomed-out adapter puts stress on the spring-loaded horn commutator pins that are part of the plastic turn signal mechanism. In this condition, you may hear squeaking of the over-loaded horn pins contacting the adapter’s commutator ring and you will likely feel resistance when turning the wheel due to the adapter rubbing the column. Do not drive the car in this condition or you may break off the horn pin plastic mounts. Solution for 1969 Mustang is to install a thin wall spacer that contacts the c-clip within the column and stands the adapter off the base of the column. I cut down a few common copper pipe plumbing reducers until I achieved a 0.050” gap between the adapter and column base. 0.035” would probably be optimum but its hard to control the cut of the copper pipe spacer and you don’t want to knock it down on the bench grinder or it won’t be flat, so try a few times. Turn signal activation is easier than it seems. The two roll pins with the adapter are NOT required for 1969 Mustang. Simply position one of the two notches to engage the turn signal pin on the turn signal switch in the nominal steering wheel centered position which is about 7 o’clock. This is just like the stock Ford wheel which has a notch on the wheel hub. If you cannot center your wheel with the turn signal switch pin in the approximate 7 o’clock position, you may try rotating the wheel adapter 1 spline in either direction, however that will likely bias the turn signal cancellation to cancel early in one direction and late in the other. It’s more desirable to get the turn signal cancellation spot on and then adjust the toe to center the wheel. My stock wheel was already centered, so when I installed the adapter as described above, my S1MS-3600-WG-6 steering wheel was also centered. Do not use for 1970 Mustang as the design has no tab hole for the ignition key locking cylinder. Misses a 5 star review due to no instructions.
