Verified Buyer AIR CONDITIONING KIT

I have received the kit and examined it, I have not installed it yet. This review is about what I see so far. After looking at the offerings from several vendors I felt this was one of the best overall kits for features. In particular, it has pre-assembled hose's with the ends already swaged one. Some kits have cut hose lengths with fittings you need to shove on yourself and use hose clamps to hold together. Those are far more likely to leak. I checked to verify all parts were included and it appears everything was in the box. Everything looks like a quality part. The included instructions were clear (much better quality as far as being able to see the photos than the instructions that can be downloaded from the site but the actual instructions are essentially the same. In the photo of the kit its hard to tell if the fittings use o-rings or not. They do use 0-rings, which is what you want, not old style metal on metal. With the o-rings you are not depending on getting the fittings "tight enough", the o-ring seals, the nut/fitting holds it together. This is also the least expensive under dash kit I found. What it looked like you might get from some of the more expensive kits were under dash evap units which had a different style, such as 4 ball outlets, or an aluminum facing material, or chromed vents. This has, as the photo shows, black vents with an overall chrome surround. When I get it installed in a couple months I will update this review.

AIR CONDITIONING KIT

I left a previous review with the same rating. Since that review I have installed the kit. I am very pleased with it. It cools very well. The photos in the instructions are pretty low quality which made putting the brackets together more difficult that it needed to be. I muddled thru and got them installed. The relatively minor problems I had with the kit are: The hose that comes from inside the car and goes directly back to the compressor was about 3 inches too short. It still installs OK but you need to route it outside of the heater blower on the fender instead of inside. The big main aluminum mounting bracket was fine, no problem with it, but two of the "z" shaped brackets were slightly off and I had to shim where they bolted on with a couple of washers. The kit comes with longer bolts because of the extra space the Z brackets take but one of them was still not long enough and only engaged about a quarter inch of threads. That's not enough so I used a longer bolt to get better thread engagement. The belt that came with the kit was 1/2" too short. I could probably have forced it on but I got a 1/2" longer one from the auto parts store. Although this is the "budget" kit it looks like it uses the same evaporator core as the slightly more costly similar kits that have slightly different vent outlet configuration and finish style. It cools very well. Once the car is cooled down I can often turn the blower down to the lowest speed. On high speed it blows a lot of air. I made an overview video of installing it in my 1957 thunderbird which is on YouTube.
