This is the exact fit for a 1979 Ford Fairmont with a 302, I can confirm. Tip on the battery (same for '79 mustang) a group 56 battery is the correct type and here in Northern CA most auto parts stores don't stock it. However Advance Auto Parts, who picked up the Sears Die-Hard Brand and products had a Die-Hard Group 56 Lead-Acid (the silver Die-Hard; they don't make it in Platinum(AGC)) and it was manufactured in 12/2022 so I was happy.
