Carpet, Deluxe Cut Pile Nylon, Mass Back Molded, Dark Charcoal, Incl Complete Passenger Area, Jute Padding, Correct Heal Pad, Repro

I ended up buying two sets of this carpet. I'll explain why including why only a 2 star rating. The first set I bought from NPD was an open box because it was the only one they had in stock at my local NPD store. When I got it home and layed it out to examine it, I found a molded-in crease on the passenger side at the firewall of which there would be no possible way of removing the crease. It seems when the mass backing (rubber) was placed on the back of the carpet, the crease was in the carpet and the mass backing was installed right over the crease. Thus making it impossible to remove the crease during installation. I returned this back to NPD and asked if they had another one anywhere. There was one in Michigan which I had them ship to me. The second one came in the ACC (manufacturer) box. But this box was taped shut with NPD-labeled heavy duty tape. So I knew this box was also opened at one time. FWIW-the ACC carpet box comes from the factory with the box stapled shut using those large copper staples. Anyway, when I received it, I opened the box and layed the carpet out to inspect it. The carpet looked ok, so I proceeded with the installation. I started at the passenger side, moved to the rear seat area, then on the drivers side with the intention of finishing at the carpet under the pedals. When I got the area under the pedals where the heal pad is located, I took a second and third look because the heal pad had ripple in it and a bubble/bulge in the carpet at the upper left corned next to the heal pad. Then I noticed the heal pad was crooked on the carpet. To be sure I wasn't just seeing something wrong, I measured the back edge of the heal pad on each end to the seat mounting studs. Sure enough, the heal pad was cockeyed. There was a 1 1/2" difference between the position of the heal pad on one side versus the other side. Clearly the heal pad was molded into the carpet on an angle. Boy, was I upset! After spending almost 8 hours trying to get this carpet installed as perfectly as possible, I find this poorly manufactured section of the carpet when I'm almost finished with the installation. Needless to say, I went back over the entire installation to make absolutely certain I had the carpet installed squarely in the car (it was near perfect because the trimming required on each side was within about 1/4"-3/8" on both sides. I wasn't about to remove everything again and return it to NPD because 1 - the carpet was already trimmed as required during installation and 2 - my new GT mats would cover the lousy manufacturing by ACC. In fact, I told ACC that in some areas where the mass backing was installed on the carpet, particularly around the upper edges along the firewall, the mass backing material was almost 3/16" thick, thus making it very difficult to trim as required. The other areas of the carpet mass backing was maybe 1/16" or less, which was easy to trim when needed. I did write to ACC explaining what I ran in to during the installation and included photos of the defects mentioned above. But ACC says, "You didn't order directly from us, so you'll have to go back to the distributor you bought it from." I did send the same information NPD. But I seriously doubt anything will come of it. ACC clearly has quality control problems because of my experience with two different sets of carpet. Both having manufacturing defects. Unfortunately, ACC is the only game in town.
