Description

14:1 quick ratio. This conversion kit offers the convenience and compactness of the 71-73 Mustang style system by having all the power steering components built into the steering box making the conversion from manual steering to power extremely easy. The kits are simple to install and include all necessary parts except where noted: Requires 2 sheave crank and water pump pulleys if your car has only single sheave. M/T cars will require either a cable or hydraulic clutch conversion or special equalizer bar 7528-50A for 65-66. Customer will need to supply needed pulleys, belts and refrigerant. Note: installation requires cutting steering shaft and column. Welded steering components may not be legal in some countries outside the U.S.. P/S kits utilize existing pump & brackets. M/S kits include new Saginaw pump & brackets. The M/S kits can be used as an upgrade to existing P/S cars as the Saginaw pumps included in the M/S kits develop more pressure that is necessary for low RPM effectiveness not present in the factory Ford pumps. You must convert to manual steering linkage or 3A163-2A in order to use this option. Installation on a 65-67 requires cutting of steering column tube and shaft. Customer will need to supply needed pulleys, belts and refrigerant. Installation may also require 3A719-50A. Will fit cars converted with 81-95 5.0L and 5.8L engines with use of that engines Power Steering pump and fabricated Power Steering hoses. Welded steering components may not be legal in some country’s outside the U.S.. Kit includes a manual steering drag link for use on 65-66 Mustang to replace the original control valve and P/S drag link. Use on an early 67 Mustang or Cougar with 1” sector shaft and power steering will require the addition of a drag link adapter 3A163-2A sold separately. Does not include pump or pump brackets.
Additional parts may be needed for installation:
Some installations may require longer power steering hoses 3A719-50A which are lengthened an additional 6”. For 5.0L conversions an additional hose 3A719-50C will be required. Ford pump uses Motorcraft type F fluid NPD# F-19582-2. Saginaw pump uses GM AC Delco NPD# C-0088-01 fluid.

You must flush the PS system anytime components are replaced to eliminate any contamination and to validate manufacturers warranties. Many transmission fluids available on the market do not meet manufacturer minimum standards for friction, viscosity, corrosion or wear.  In fact Cardone, the largest supplier of rebuilt power steering components, has found the cause of many power steering related failures can be traced back to low quality fluid.  Don’t risk your restoration on a budget brand fluid. We carry both Motorcraft Type “F” and GM AC Delco brand power steering fluids.

Verified Buyer Borgeson Power Steering Conversion Kit

I bought the kit for existing P/S equipped mustangs and purchased a rebuilt Ford style pump to insure everything was new. The integral steering box installed wihout any trouble, once I loosened up my tri-y header. The rag joint was a little tight as it almost protruded into the firewall opening ( 66 C code coupe). Once I cut down the column tube, everyrhing went back together okay. Took some wiggling to get the tube to seat properly and additional cutting to maintain clearance for installing steering wheel. Operation with the Ford pump was no problem but the pump whined horribly. Don’t know if this was a quality issue with rebuilt pump or overtaxing from the steering box. Ended up buying a pump conversion kit from Borgeson and it solved the problem. Steering feel and response seems to be much better.

The contents of the box only partially fit. There is a drag link to fit 65-66 Mustangs. NOT NEEDED. What is needed is the drag link adapter P/N 990003. Had to order separately.
